The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Network and the Region of Central Macedonia

The Region of Central Macedonia and Network of Social Solidarity & Assistance undertake joint actions to support vulnerable social groups.

A memorandum of understanding for the implementation of joint actions in support of vulnerable social groups was signed by the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas and the President of Network of Social Solidarity & Assistance Nikolaos Pentzos.

The aim is to take joint initiatives, cooperate and coordinate interventions in society, to address the social impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

“In this particularly difficult period, social solidarity and the protection of our most vulnerable fellow citizens are the responsibility of all of us. As the Administration of the Region of Central Macedonia, from the first moment that the pandemic broke out, we do every day what we are committed to letting us not leave any of our fellow citizens alone in this crisis, let us not leave anyone behind. The private sector, the institutions, the Chambers, the 38 Municipalities of the Region of Central Macedonia, were and are our main partners in this great effort to reduce the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. “Today we sign together with Network of Social Solidarity & Assistance, set up by the productive partners of Thessaloniki, a memorandum of understanding, through which we will coordinate joint actions to provide social work for vulnerable social groups and especially for children and young people.” pointed out Mr. Tzitzikostas.

The Governor congratulated in the person of Mr. Pentzos, the Association of Greek Industries, the Chambers (TIF, BETH, EETH), the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Exporters for their initiative to create a structure of social solidarity, proving that can have a significant contribution to society and that corporate social responsibility has substance and real impact on citizens.

“Shortly, we will undertake joint actions standing next to those in need. Our weapon is the cooperation and the coordination of our interventions, for our joint actions to be even more effective and to support even more citizens substantially. Our goal is to use all the possibilities, all the means at our disposal to effectively support our place and society. Cooperation between the public and private sectors can bring tangible results and be the umbrella of protection of the weakest, our fellow human beings who are most in need in a time of unprecedented and multilevel crisis. The Region of Central Macedonia will continue to firmly and dynamically support our vulnerable fellow citizens. And this very important work of ours is strengthened even more now, through this pact of understanding and I am sure that in the next very critical period we will have even better results, even more beneficiaries. In this struggle, the struggle to keep society afloat and to get out of the crisis as quickly as possible, we are all together: State and business, self-government, and individuals. We are all together and we will succeed. And this is exactly what today’s signature signifies “, underlined Mr. Tzitzikostas.

Mr. Pentzos thanked the Regional Governor for his trust in Network and pointed out: “The Region of Central Macedonia and Mr. Tzitzikostas himself has proven that their main priority and axis of their policy is social solidarity. Our common goal is to mobilize businesses, our members, and citizens and raise their awareness in the direction of social contribution. In 2014, when Network started its activities, we supported 21 social institutions, and this year we support more than 101. Today we set the framework of our cooperation with the Region and its social structures, to support all social institutions and institutions. In cooperation with the Region, we will map the support needs, we will prioritize the institutions and social groups with the greatest need and we will implement specific support projects, with the participation of many companies “.
